Diseases of the Nervous System

  • Early-stage atherosclerosis of cerebral arteries;
  • Consequences of traumatic injuries of the brain or spinal cord (concussion, contusion) without major motor impairment;
  • Asthenic and neuroasthenic conditions;
  • Diseases of the peripheral nervous system;
  • Radiculitis, polyradiculoneuritis, late-stage infectious and toxic-allergic plexitis;
  • Trauma-induced peripheral nerve conditions not requiring surgery and showing potential for functional recovery;
  • Neuralgia of the trigeminal, occipital, sciatic nerves, and intercostal neuralgia;
  • Neuritis of the facial, radial, ulnar, femoral nerves, and nerves of the lower leg;
  • Lumbosacral radiculitis;
  • Brachial plexitis and cervico-brachial radiculitis.

Sanatorium-resort treatment is conducted away from daily stress, variable weather, and routine work — all of which contribute to fatigue and emotional exhaustion. These factors make Naftalan an ideal place for recovery.

Iodine-bromine waters

Naftalan’s iodine-bromine waters offer high therapeutic effectiveness with optimal mineral concentration. Their complex physiological action is explained by dissolved elements:

  • Iodine penetrates the skin and, through the central nervous system, significantly influences tissue metabolism.
  • Bromine has a direct sedative effect on the central nervous system by enhancing inhibitory processes in the cerebral cortex and restoring the balance between excitation and inhibition.

Combined with physiotherapy, iodine-bromine treatments greatly enhance therapeutic results.

Therapy results

The sanatorium successfully treats peripheral nervous system disorders. A combined treatment program — including local Naftalan applications, physiotherapy, massage, manual therapy, kinesitherapy, and various physical modalities — delivers optimal healing.

During treatment, a mild localized balneological reaction may occur in some patients. This is a normal biological response within physiological adaptation limits. It may cause slight pain intensification but resolves by the end of the treatment course.
